SOCT Annual Report

Print To Digital
Challenge
In the midst of Covid-19, The Special Olympics of Connecticut wanted to branch out from their printed annual reports and create an interactive virtual experience that would reach a broader audience.
Process
This was such a fun and rewarding project to work on! As design lead, I collaborated with content writers, developers and our lovely clients. The UI/UX was built in XD and then later developed by Worx Branding using a Concrete 5 platform.
Based on their wide range of brand colors, I knew early on that we needed to implement a more organized system of usage. We chose to use a gradient, which flowed all the brand colors together, as the main background container. A set of rules around the usage of brand colors was then formed and we could then inform the user on which colors could be used with each other from an accessibility and color contrast standpoint.
From there, each section of the site was broken out into tabbed folder blocks that sat on top of the background container. The idea behind doing so was to make each section feel framed and important as the main focal point on your screen. Throughout the experience we also created a series of bubble graphics and animated svgs that interacted and overlapped with image silhouettes. The core navigation is accessible through a side hamburger menu which opens from the right. Each element in the nav easily allows the user to anchor to a specific section of the LP.
Conclusion
As a fun bonus for the experience, we created various pulsing buttons which opened up into pop-ups of videos and/or content, animated stats, interactive bubble maps, financial charts & more!
The client fell in love with the website we created for them and decided to use it as a template for future years to come! This project was a pivotal moment in my design career where I realized that web design was going to be a huge passion of mine. I really enjoyed the process from start to finish and getting to bring these static designs to life through the use of animation. This project won a GDUSA Award in both 2020 and 2021!
